Having a couple of days off in early December, it was definitively about time planning a new excursion with my long time favorite travel buddy Alf Kåre. We "snuste på" destinations like Egypt, Morocco and Romania, but ended up with a 5 (short) days trip to the Baltic States (so hip these days with Scandinavians on a weekend break or Britt's on the ultimate stag-party pissup). Estonia (Tallinn), Latvia (Riga) and Lithuania (Vilnius), three small countries and capitals right up there in my childhood latitudes.

But before heading for the Baltic's, I spent a few days working from the Stockholm office of the company I'm hired. An office I know so well after working there for close to four years between 1995 and 1998. Some of my old colleagues were practically still sitting at their old desks. They are all part of the interior now a good friend explained, and that got me thinking about what I have done over the last few years since leaving the Swedish capital behind in 1998. Close to five years in England (to be honest, surely three would have been sufficient), 14 months or so in Seattle on the Pacific Coast of the United States. Seattle, a great city with stunning surroundings (reflecting a bit, I think I could easily have switched a couple of my years in the UK for a few more in Seattle). Close to 16 months in Latin America and now almost one year in the Spanish capital. Add to that trips to Canada, Australia, South-East Asia, South Africa, two other short breaks in Latin America and countless short trips around Europe, and I think I can say that I'm a restless soul after all.

Three days in Stockholm, staying with Alf Kåre and his family, passed quickly and on Tuesday night we headed for the ferry terminal in order to catch the night ferry to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. A new country was practically on our doorstep, we just had to survive 15 hours of brackish water, a chilly December night and an Estonian dance troupe in an empty ferry disco...
