It is early afternoon, the sun is shining and it's around 27 degrees Celsius outside. It's October 30th. That's only two days from November, the years ugly stepchild, as a friend so correctly described this normally drizzly, chilly and utterly charmless month. Unless you happen to live in Madrid that is, where the ugly stepchild is roasting guiris (Spanish slang for foreigners) instead of bombarding them with buckets of horizontal H2O molecules. Surely I know which one I prefer. Or even better, maybe you are lucky enough to be able to dedicate this month to hammock swaying on a beach in..., lets say Honduras, where I happened to be last year around this time, madre mia..., those were the days... Hit the road Jack..., aaahh there it is again, the call of the universal sink plug...

I am in the office at the moment, currently listening to Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits while writing these sweet honey dripping lines. My company has decided to hire me back full time, in fact starting from today. I have of course accepted as it means better conditions for me (read more pasta), and since I still very much enjoy living in this city. There's however a network outage here today on my first day as fijo, and since we are in Spain, it will probably be taken care of "mañana"... So I guess my customers (sorry guys) will have to wait as I am about to go catch some rays and spend some of my well earned ravioli...

It may not beat a public holiday you didn't know about or even a new optical mouse for Christmas, but an unexpected network outage on a Monday afternoon is definitively up there among life's mighty cool surprises (when you are a sad sucker normally stuck in a cubicle that is). The Prado is closed on Mondays (qué lastima), so I guess it'll have to be a cold one on Plaza Santa Ana instead. Aaahh, life ain't too bad when you get along with your ugly stepchild (hmm, maybe I should wait until I actually get to meet him up close and personal this year)...

Except for that, not much news for the last couple of weeks. I am still hanging out with Johana and her buddies. It does wonders for my Spanish. Next week I will go to Barcelona for a few days to meet Fredrik, one of my best friends from Norway. As I have never been to Barcelona before, I wouldn't mind dedicate most of the trip to sightseeing, but knowing Fredrik that is highly unlikely to happen (in the category Charlize Theron spotted on planet Neptune, so if it happens I guess we would have to rewrite history for the longest flying bird, sorry all you Sooty Terns out there). Guess I'm lucky if I get a view of La Sagrada Familia while zooming past in a taxi heading for the next mojito hotspot. Let me explain..., I once went to London with Fredrik, and after having paid a fortune for the double decker tourist bus to show us the main sites London has on offer, Fredrik managed to convince the lot of us to get off the bus on the very next stop from where we had first entered the bus (I think we got to see ancient rain smashing against the windows of the National History Museum, if there is such a place in London) and head for a proper English pub instead. And that time back in London he was travelling with "Regjeringa", this time he is alone. Holy Moly, disaster coming up shortly...
