You are deep in some steamy Central American jungle looking for Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, when you thanks to your lucky amulet come down with Montezuma's Revenge. That's when you notice that the antibiotics your doctor gave you specifically against diarrhea got the following side effect: DIARRHEA. Do you wish your doctor no presents for Christmas, or that he either start to practice Islam or become a Zen Buddhist so he doesn't even get to celebrate Christmas?

The Lanquin and Semuc Champey area was just as spectacular as the people I've met said it would be. I think I'll have to struggle a bit to find a more relaxing place than El Retiro to stay on this trip. A backpackers haven along the river Lanquin, where you can visit bat-caves, swim through caves and climb it's inner waterfalls just from the light of a candle. Float down rivers on a tube and dive in the pools of Semuc Champey, while getting a shoulder massage from the plummeting water that used to live undisturbed in the pool above. Catch the sunset over the green hills from one of the hammocks in the open air bar. "Una cerveza, por favor!"

After a few days here, the plan is to head down towards Rio Dulce, before getting on my way to Honduras.
