I woke around midday as we flew over the coastline of Hong Kong to circle out at sea before we were cleared to land. After flying in circles for about half an hour we started making our path towards the runway which took us over the city and back out over the water. The plane descended to what couldn't have been any higher than a couple of hundred metres above sea level and from where I was sat I could not any land or runaway, just sea! Just before we were due to hit the water a strip of runway appeared beneath us as if out of nowhere, Pheew! It's 1am local time but as far as my body clock is concerned it's 6am and I feel very tired.
My stop in Hong Kong airport was 2 hours long but the time just flew by. I had a brief wander around the food court but as I had no money I didn't buy anything so instead went to find gate 50 to board my next flight CX117 to Auckland! Once outside my gate I still had a little time to spare so with the wonders of free wifi and an iPhone I got to chat to my Father on skype and check my mail before I had to board.
I could barely stay awake once I was sat myself down in my designated seat and I was so happy to find that after everyone had boarded the plane I still had an empty seat next to me :] I immediately had my head up against the wall and drifted in and out of awareness for the first hour until my food arrived which kept me awake for a little while. I have already set my clock to Auckland time and plan to sleep according to that. The plan was to sleep around 10pm to give me 8 hours before I landed and hopefully I won't feel to jet lagged!
