This is the final entry on this travel blog.  We leave Cairns tomorrow to return to Phoenix.  Then we will head back to Tallahassee to await the birth of our new granddaughter, Bryanna Andrews.  Needless to say we are very excited!!
We had two wonderful days in Mission Beach, four great days in Port Douglas, and our final three days were spent in Cairns.  Northern Queensland is very tropical.  Hope you enjoy some of the sights.  A day trip from Mission Beach to Dunk Island was quite enjoyable.  Went by water taxi.  Spent the day hiking the island and sunning on the beach.  How about all those fruit bats!!  Found them by accident while running in Port Douglas.  Had to return with a camera just to share them with everyone.  These guys have a 2 foot plus wing span.  Saw them one evening as they took flight.  Thousands of them.  A sight to behold.  Made our way up to Cape Tribulation and also road the Skyrail over the rainforest and took the Kuranda Train back down the mountain.  Did a little hiking in Cairns and got some great views of the wharf and downtown area.  Needless to say, our two trips to the Great Barrier Reef were a highlight.  No words can really describe the clear water and the variety of fish and coral we saw. My highlight was to see a Nemo in the open ocean and to swim with a big sea turtle so close I could touch him.  Also the two foot wide giant clams were absolutely awesome.  We made the trips to two different sections of the outer reef.  One trip out of Port Douglas and another trip out of Cairns.
We have had so many wonderful experiences over the past four months but will also be really happy to see kids, grand kids and the USA!!
