Where I stayed
We arrived in Te Anau on March 31st. A beautiful town on Lake Te Anau with roses blooming everywhere. Our first full day was spent on a cruise of Doubtful Sound. This boat trip involved driving to Manapouri, taking a boat ride across Lake Manapouri, taking a bus ride of about an hour to the head of Doubtful Sound. On the bus tour we were taken 500 feet under a mountain to view the Manapouri West Arm Power Station. The tour of Doubtful Sound to the Tasman Sea was awesome. Believe it or not, on the bus we sat in front of a young couple who graduated from FSU and he was working for Shell Oil here in NZ. SMALL WORLD!! We also struck up a friendship with a couple about our own age who lived in Atlanta. He also graduated from FSU two years after Steve. FSU is well represented here in NZ!! We also did some hiking as you can see by the pictures. On April 3 we took a bus ride to Milford Sound and toured the sound on a large lake steamer with state rooms on the first deck.. They did unfurl the sails but just for show. The cruise was spectacular even though as you can see it was a cloudy day. It rains in the sound 267 days a year so we got really lucky we only had clouds. The entire five days we spent here was just magnificent.

I thought Steve was dragging you to the power stations. Didn't know it was part of the tour :-)
