Larry along with his Mexican friend Jorge (Hor Hay) took us on a great Sunday drive along the south side of the lake. Tizapan El Alto is a small picturesque village with a great Plaza and Church which is the case with EVERY Mexico town. Their church was impressive with twin spires. Just beyond the church was a beautiful flowing stream. There were little circles of rock out in the river where vendor dump loads of onions/purselane/cilantro and wash them off before taking to the market (Tianguis). Sunday is the day for the the Tianguis here. Being from the US were everything closes down on Sunday just the opposite is true in this little village. Sunday is the busiest day of the week. We stopped along the way at a roadside vendors and had great pork tacos. We got to practice our Spanish on Jorge and he got to practice English with us. Although he needs very little practice. - Thanks Jorge!! Larry was his usualy wealth of information and took us to another little village about 10 miles further where the white pelicans come for the winter. There will be thousands and thousands migrating here come November. If you get on Google Earth and "fly to" " Petatan" in the state of "Michoacan" you'll find pictures of these lovely birds.
On our way home we ran into a VW car show. Volkswagens were made here long after they stopped importing them into the US so there are many beetles still in use here. My car the Honda Element was subject of looks and points with these car guys. Elements are not imported into Mexico. Although I've seen a few they are rare here.
