Very, very wet morning as our journey goes into March. Our initial plan was to get to Wanaka today, but as the weather improved we had a nice lunch stop at Lake Hawea and decided that we would push on to Queenstown, to reduce the distance to Te Anau on Wednesday.
However, we stopped at Wanaka, a small, touristy but smart town by the lake, for fuel and provisions. The throat infection that Steve picked up from the flight had just about cleared itself, but now Chris was afflicted. More medicine @ £9.00 a bottle was prescribed @ the chemist!
Beautiful scenery all the way by the side of Lake Wanaka until we climbed into the hills and started the decent to Queenstown.
Queenstown is a large vibrant multi cultural city catering for the activity thrill seekers. It is bigger than what we envisaged, including the motorhome site which was packed with motors too close together. Steve hated it, but as this was our only option, we bit the bullet.
We had a wander into town in the evening. It was very busy, as a concert had just finished in aid of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
