We had a wonderful day in the city on Saturday. Took a local bus out to Lyttelton, to go up Mount Pleasant on the Gondola. Mist cleared as we got to the top. Back in town, we had a wander, including the cathedral which had a flower show and the Aquarium on the other side of the main square. Staggered back through Hagley Park, admiring the flowers and shrubs in the Botanical Garden.

Early start Sunday. Immediate panic, as lift arranged by hotel to railway stn, hadn't arrived by 0750. Called a taxi, which got us to the station just in time for 0815 departure of Tranz Alpine over the mountains to Greymouth (4hrs) & return. A great day with wonderful scenery
