When we get back to Khamnadie we need some rice milled but find that Deu next door is having problems with his machine and cant do any for us. This means getting on the bike with Jai and a 30kg sack of rice and biking about 10km along bad roads to Coke Lam and Jai's brother Yut's house. There never seems to be anyone here when we visit but now his wife is staying home all the time taking care of a new grandson. Their son married a young Laos girl last year when we were in England. Mill the rice whilst we keep an eye on a sleeping baby.
Brother Yut returns with his small poodle, Yingluck, named after the prime minister and looking much happier than she does at the moment ! Rice milled we bike back carrying a little less weight.
We have arranged to sell some rice to John's missus Erm and as luck would have it she calls in this afternoon to collect it but we cant get it milled. We promise it for tomoorw and just hope that we can deliver then.
I sit on my own in the back garden after we eat and drink a couple of beers. I watch the stars come out and it feels about midnight when I retire to the bedroom and am shocked to find it is only 20:15.
