Jai has decided that the afternoons are too hot for working at the farm now so, starting from today, she is going to come with me in the mornings instead.  I finally cut the last bamboo this morning.  A clump of about 8 trees were still standing and asI cut each refused to fall down.  Eventually with all but two cut we simply grabbed a trailing branch and pulled back and forwards until the whole lot collapsed together.  Now the whole area needs to be cleared and burnt hopefully killing off all of the roots.
There was a story on the TV news here a few days ago about a village near the city of Roi Et where a lot of young, family, men seemed to be dying prematurely.  The local doctor put it down to overwork but the village shaman had a dream. as they do.  He announced that a female spirit was responsible.  Jealous of their happy family lives she was taking the young men for husbands for herself.  He also dreamt that if you hung a red shirt outside your house  the spirit would think that it was a lady that lived there and the husbands would be safe.  Who did everyone believe, the doctor or the shaman ?  Everywhere you go now you can see red shirts hanging in trees or on gate posts etc etc
