Its the silly season for boys aged about 15 who have just started the school holidays to become a monk for a few days. The general idea is well intentioned but it is always accompanied by a 3 day party with continuous loud music and endlessbeer and whiskey - not exactly Bhuddist stuff? Anyway, the temple music that has been upsetting me for a whilenowhas been joined today by music from a 'make-a-monk' party just down the road.
To keep away from the house for a bit I bike out to Jai's brother Yut's farm and cut a huge pile of coconut tree leaves for more brushes. I then head to Jai's farm where I cut up a couple of already fallen trees to use for our mushroom hut later. Being a little out of practise with the machete for heavy work I soon develop a lovely blister ...
Jai disappeared early afternoon to go to a friends for a drink before joining in the parade around the village which I tactfully decline to join.
