Took Jai to John & Lawans in the next village of Pak Chong to help them prepare food etc for a forthcoming party. Went to pick her up late afternoon and stayed for a couple of beers with John.
It is the done thing here to have a party 100 days after a persons death. This memorial service is known as “Tamboon Roy Wan” and its purpose is to gain merit for the departed Spirit and to help shorten the time spent by the Spirit in any of the Buddhist realms in which that Spirit may find itself prior to reincarnation. Last night the monks came to chant and pray for the deceased - in this case Lawans father.
The only other part of the ceremony appears to be that everyone gets drunk !!
