With the rice season well and truly behind us most peoples thoughts have turned to their sugar cane which is one of the major cash crops grown locally. Every day now a steady stream of lorries pass the house laden down with the cut canes en-route to a factory about 20km from us. Jai doesnt have any sugar so this time of year passes us by. She does have a large field with sugar cane being grown on it by her brother next door but this is the last year he will be using as we will be reclai\ming it for our own use next year - sugar, manioc or rubber trees is yet to be decided.
