Wednesday

Nothing particularly planned day so a later start and a trip along the strip it was. We headed to Hurrahs to use the tickets the bus driver had given us yesterday. They were free tickets to see a comedy magic show although you had to buy a drink and pay the taxes but at least we knew this in advance.

I just wish America was a bit more upfront about their costs. Nothing here is what it seems. You see the price but then you have to pay Live entertainment tax, employee benefit tax, resort tax, just because we can tax oh and then they want a tip on top. I made up the just because tax but all the others are real. Ok i got that off my chest – move on and build a bridge as Gemma would say.

We had enough time before the show started to have a look around the Flamingo hotel, obviously from the photos you can tell they had flamingos and big fish outside, it passed away the hour nicely.

The show itself was great, really funny and great magic, we both really enjoyed it. After the show we waited for the bus to go to the downtown area of Vegas Fremont Street, where there are more casinos, more entertainment only cheaper and more relaxed apparently. We waited ages until finally the bus came. It was a double decker and packed full, still we got on but so many other people did too, they just kept cramming us in until the bus could take no more, but neither could Claire, we had to get off. I must admit it was seriously overcrowded and just couldn't be safe. I don’t know what their laws are but I know it just would happen back home.

We visited Circus Circus hotel to check out their entertainment, we had heard that they have circus acts performing overhead while you are in their casino. Well it wasn’t quite overhead but sure enough they have a circus ring etc. The next show was about to start so we sat down eagerly awaiting the show. On came two performers on roller skates, they did a few stunts where he was spinning round and she was hanging on. Well they didn’t look very confident, I was half expecting her to fly off in any direction at any time soon. She did hang on but the last feat they attempted where she was supposed to hang on by her neck she failed, by this time I was feeling quite sorry for them. They almost lasted 5 minutes, and that was it the next show was in 45 minutes time. Wasn’t worth sitting down for really.

They did have more family themed entertainment and Claires eyes lit up when I pointed out the donkey derby where you roll the balls to move your horse. She is quite an expert at this so we had a couple of goes. Claire won the first race and I won the second, we had won something in Vegas!! Don’t hold your breath Eden but we will be donating the prize to you. Next time Caiden.

This was also the first time we had found machines you could actually put coins into, it was the ones where it pushes your coins over the edge. Well we had a couple of coins that we had tried to use in the slot machines so we put them in here and won some coupons. As for the slot machines, even the 1 cent play machines don’t accept coins, you have to put in at least a dollar, takes all the fun out of it for me.

By the time we walked back it was just too much to carry on to Fremont street so we decided on staying at our hotel eating in one of the in house restaurants and trying our luck one more time at Blackjack. I actually plucked up the courage to have a go at the live tables. I did win the first hand after being told off for picking my cards up with two hands, I thought they were going to chop them off. I had to sit on one hand after that. That was the end of my winning streak and the twenty dollars was gone in 5 hands. Oh well. Claire wanted to have a go at roulette, having never played before we tried the machine version instead. She put a 20 in the machine which started to go down at first but gradually between us we pulled back up to the original amount and hit give me back money back. We had a good 15 minutes playing which didn’t cost us to we thought it was a result.

After a nice Italian meal in one of the hotels restaurants Claire did the packing and I popped back up to the top of the tower for a last look out over the city at night, I sure was wrong in thinking before we arrived that Las Vegas was just a strip in the middle of nowhere, the place is massive and built up for miles in all directions.

What a place? I think you either love it or hate it! Great to see but probably would not go back xxxx

I agree on all counts! I have been quite a few times now with others, and wouldn't go back. Would never discourage others tho, because as last comment said, it is either your place or not! And I think you have to see it at least once.
