Monday

After a bit of a disturbed night (we have changed rooms now) we went over to Denny's for breakfast.  Good meal and set us up for the day - eggs, sausage (not like Richmonds but ok) hash brown (grated potato and cooked fresh), toast, unlimited coffee and fresh orange!

Our aim was to buy an all day bus ticket today as our hotel is right at the end of the Strip.  Well we ended up walking a good way waiting for a bus to even pass us........not sure what happened there, as they ran frequently for the rest of the day.  We booked our trip out to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam for tomorrow – 6am pick up!  This is something that we both really wanted to do from Vegas and gave ourselves an extra day here to do the trip.  We got a few quotes from different tour agents yesterday, they are absolutely everywhere out here and plumped for a really non-pushy guy who gave us a bit of a discount off the leaflet price and was really up front with what we can expect.  There was one company that he said he wouldn’t touch as we would come back and lynch him – the next guy tried to sell us that very same tour.  When we told him about it today, he told us that although they would have picked us up at 6am, we wouldn’t have left Vegas until after 8am as there are so many pick ups........that wouldn’t have gone down well.  Anyway we have a tour booked and we are really looking forward to that.  Gonna be a long day, but hopefully it will be worth it.

We then caught a bus up the Strip to New York New York.  Bit disappointing in this one really – yes the scenery is nice, but not an awful lot inside unless you are into gambling.  We headed over the road to the MGM Grand hotel as Steve fancied having a look at this one.  Again very disappointing – nothing in there at all to see, not like the Venetian last night.  They tried to get us to go and preview a showing of a pilot new series and said that CBS pilot all of their new series’ at the MGM and the feedback is invaluable.  They sold it to us as some free entertainment.  So we tootled off only to find that they shut you in a small room on office chairs in front of a computer for an hour – I don’t think so!

We both seem to have hit a bit of a brick wall today – lack of sleep from last night and not many pool or beach days for a while I guess.  So after this we headed back to the hotel for our change of room to be ready.  Have to say that we both gave in and got our head down for an hour or so, it was obviously needed.

I would like to say that I woke up ready to take on the world, but unfortunately this was not the case.  Steve dragged me out of bed and we headed off for another exploration.  We wanted to cover three hotels really tonight – the Bellagio, Paris and Caesars Palace.  The bus took us to outside the Bellagio and we took the moving walkway into the foyer.  We were told by an American couple in New Zealand to have a look at the ceiling in the Bellagio foyer, so we wanted to do this.  There is a large square of what look like porcelain flowers – many colours and pretty.  But the best thing were the fountains at the front of the hotel.  They were spectacular.  There is a show every 15 minutes, all different and set to music – it was brilliant.  The Paris hotel is directly over the road and we had our evening meal in one of their restaurants – outside on a balcony and watched the fountains.  Brilliant restaurant and so warm with the outside heaters on just sitting below the huge Eiffel Tower – reminded me of going there with the girls as we had such a great time.

Inside the hotel was lovely also, like the Venetian but on a Parisian theme.  We came across a themed bar with some live entertainment on – husband and wife duo on a double piano and singing requests.  They were excellent and real fun with the audience also.  What was meant to be an early night for our early start tomorrow – failed to materialise.  Had a brilliant time though so what does it matter........we can catch up on sleep when we get home!

Joy on

When my daughters and I were there one time we stayed on the top floor of the Bellagio! They told the woman at the desk that they would like an upgrade for their 80 year old mother! Worked like a charm!
