Sittin on the dock of the Bay

Saturday

No rush this morning, no plans so we had an extra hour in bed on the old Skype with Hayley and Kim. Once we had caught up and realised we was only missing snow and freezing temperatures back home we got ourselves ready for our last day in San Francisco.

Claire wanted to see Mrs Doubtfire's house which is a good walk from here, she wasn’t so keen on the walking though, considering the streets are far from level here I wasn’t going to put much much resistance. We are on the bus route that takes us most of the way, so after a quick stop for coffee and breakfast we caught the number 2 bus for 7 blocks. From there it was mainly downhill so we walked the rest of the way.

Pacific Heights certainly has the feel of an up market area, all the houses were very nice and is was very quiet on the streets. When we did get down to the house from the film, it was a bit of a disappointment. A nice house but nothing special, in fact I wouldn’t have recognised it.

It’s not too far from there down to the harbour side, and it’s all down hill, so we carried on walking. The sun was shining and it was really lovely down on the dock of the Bay. We sat there on a bench for an hour or so. I checked out some of the more advanced features on the new camera – what better place to try it out with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and lots of sailing boats racing around the Bay. Claire was on her phone updating her facebook making use of the free internet.

By now it was lunch time so a quick sandwich and a walk into the Palace of Fine Art where we spent most of the afternoon. This is the place where Sean Connery gave himself up and met his daughter in the film the Rock. It is a fantastic park with a large monmuntal structure in the centre featuring lots of columns. There were several wedding parties all having their photos taken around the lake and between the columns.

We walked back to Fishermans Wharf to catch the tram back up the hill and made our way back to the hotel picking up an extra suitcase on the way. We need to spread to load now into two cases. We have done well so far.

We had a nice Italian meal tonight before packing our cases ready for our flight out to Las Vegas tomorrow. I’ve been saving all my cents and I’ve almost got a dollar to put into the machines there, wish me luck!!

Looks like a cracking couple of days at Alcatraz & the Palace of Fine Art.
Claire you'd better watch what Steve spends in Las Vegas - after all he's admitted to salting money away since you hit the States.
Have fun
