After spending the night in Sopron we headed back to Budapest, stopping along the way to take a tour of the Abby of Pannonhalma. This is one of the oldest Christian monuments in Hungary, actually pre-dating the conversion of the country. It's a massive building that has been built and rebuilt over and over again over the last 1,000 years or so and as such the artistic and architectural styles run the gamut from baroque and rococo all the way back to romanesque statuary in the cellars that was defaced by the invading Ottoman Turks.
It's also one of the biggest wine producers in the region, making some pretty tasty stuff.
