And it rained again!! The good news is that we did not have to use an umbrella. We managed to sleep until 10 am. How? I have no idea but I think that since it took us until 2am to get to bed, we totally cashed out!! We made it to breakfast with 10 minutes to spare. We managed to get around and leave by noon. We took the bus to the train station and took the metro to the major train station that we were leaving from later. After walking forever we ended up right where we started. We are learning to pay attention! We put our bags in a locker and took to walking the streets of Bastille. It is a lovely part of town that is off the beaten path and had a lot to offer. So here was the question...what do 3 Americans do on a rainy day in Paris...a cafe crawl!! We did make it to the opera house and the house boat waterway and saw plenty of "Paris". I am sure there is some we did not see and we are ok with that...just will have to come back in the summer! ( michelle, how does may look;) love u al!)
We had beer in a small cafe that I had to use my phrase book to get the bill. It smelled like garlic, and b.o! Next stop was in the square Bastille something. We had a glass of wine and beer with nuts (geeez) and olives. Clearly I have not had enough salted meats and olives. I think that my fingers should look the Michelin man's by the time we get back. At 430 we headed toward the station and stopped for lunch at this trendy Parisian cafe. Marlin had a burger "medium" that was still mooing. Amanda and I went with spit pea soup and Caesar salad. Whoa yummy! Note to self: when ordering a bottle of wine remember everything is bigger in America. So a bottle may be too much.....yeah right!!!!
We went to the train station and had more luck with the lockers than the first time around and may have stopped at a mini store and picked up cheese and smoked ham (SALT) sandwiches, some water and maybe a couple sweets for the train ride.
We had time to kill so we hit our last cafe inside the train station. We took a seat on the outside patio and the people watching was incredible!! There was a black man with a fox pro dirt biking outfit that smoked a pack of cigarettes and did a fashion show strut in front of us. The gals next to us were nice enough to translate to our waiter that we wanted coffee and milk and hot chocolate and i am sure they were watchin too! A nice way to end our stay in Paris.
We headed to the train platform and found our car and seats. I appreciate sitting in 1st class. We have room to sit and sprawl and have quiet time. So here I sit with my phone typing away. I like to keep up on these posts because I do not want to forget to report something. I hope you are enjoying this blog and believe me, we are having a great time and it has only been 2 days!!! So much more to come!
