Well, we received the unfortunate news this week that our optometrist had decided to go home 3 weeks early and would not continue the program. Sort of a shame since us 4 students had prepared to be in Sangklaburi for 6 weeks doing eye care and ended up doing only 3 weeks since we're not qualified to do the work without any supervision. Spent a couple days meeting as a group and creating a volunteer manual for the next set of volunteers -- hopefully little thing that will make the program run more smoothly next time. I'm certainly learning about how different volunteer programs work this year! But anyways, I was a bit sad to leave Sangklaburi behind.
Made some good friends here (had a week of desperate housewives marathons!), got to know some of the locals well (got taken on a tour of Three Pagodas Pass and around by Satiem, one of our translators, and were treated to the BEST Burmese breakfast in the market by another one of our friends, Nichenta), had a fruit lady and a noodle lady in the market who knew what we wanted each time... It was nice to be in such a remote area since not many tourists make it up this far (and if they do, it's usually for a couple days). Sanklaburi is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm glad to have spent 3 weeks of my trip here.
