Where I stayed
caldonia state park
6/6/10
zero hero stayed at harpers ferry. Town's inn in the historic
district of the town. Amy came to visit for lunch. Then Jon
horrigan was delivered by train. I shook down his pack. We got rid
of the beach sized bottle of sunblock. Went out for dinner then went
to bed early.
6/7/10
rocky run shelter. 15 mile day. Day started off with me going
to the post office and getting my new boots in the mail. How they make
my feet feel better. Hiked out of harpers ferry before noon with
Nobody and horrigan in tow. Had some cool views of the Potomac river
when we were leaving. Got to the shelter and ha a fire and hung out
with black and tan (from Boston college) and blue steel from Philly.
Stayed in a new shelter that had a deck and chairs. Not too bad.
6/8
19 miles ensign cowell shelter. Saw a deer this morning. Hiking
is real easy expect for the rocks. Hiked though a couple of civil war
battle fields. Pretty cool. Got to see the original George
Washington monument. A big stone building. Looks like a stone milk
bottle. Stopped by some cliffs and watched over a dozen hawks flying
around while we had our beak. Then while walking over more rocks we
ram into a timber rattlesnake. He slowly moved himself off the
trail. So horrigan's second day went well. Think he's a lot more
sore today. Tomorrow we can do a 15,17,21 mile day. We'll see how
good he feels in the am
6/9
21miles. Mason Dixon line crossed. Finally in the north. Camping
in my tent at tumble run shelter. slept well.last night. Could hear
cars going by all night. Felt like home. Hiked though a field this
moning in a light cool rain. Crossed a lot of busy roads. Really flat
terrain. Knees a little sore but feeling good. Crossed into PA. 3 rd
longest state behind. Virgina and Maine.
6/10
9 miles. Caledonia state park camping trip. The rain stopped
right before morning. All our stuff was wet from a long raining day
yesterday. We got to a road walked to a pizza shop for lunch. $31
for lunch. I'm back to northern prices. After lunch. Me and
horrigan. (nobody is a day behind). Walked to a small store to
resupply and bring food for a cook out. Jon's knee felt sore so we
stopped at the state park and put our tents up on a gravel/rocky
site. Food was great. Sausage onions mushrooms and cheese. Yummy
yummy. Long haul showed up. he started 4 days behind me and I'm just
meeting him now. We gave him some food. Figured I could do a little
trail magic for a tired hiker! Plus now we have no left overs to
carry tomorrow! : )
6/11 zero day at the state park. Jon's knee is still hurting him.
It's no better. So we hung around the campsite all day. Later in the
day Nobody called me he was with Zen and Devo and two of their
friends. They ended up getting a campsite next to ours. We took one
of Zens friends cars to the store. We had a nice dinner. With all the
food we got from the store. Then we made snores later! It was nice
everybody showed up.
6/12
zero again. Jon's knee was still bothering him so we were unable
to hike today. All our friends from last night all went they're
separate ways. We went to a motel. Just sat around all day and
watched TV.
6/13
zeroed again. This is my longest break yet. Jon's knee was still
hurting so we had to figure out how to get him home. After some time
we found the closest bus station and a shuttle to get him there. I'm
feel bad that he hurt himself and had to go home early. It was so
much fun to have company on the trail. So we stayed at the motel
another night and got to watch the Celtics beat LA!!
