Where I stayed
Left Erwin and my warm bed at the motel 8 on the 15th my next big goal
is Damascus VA. Hiked 17 miles today! Hiked with Saguaro a Vietnam vet
and retired architect from AZ, Sherlock a contractor from England and
Soul Searcher retired air force from salt lake city. We'd stick
together all the way to Damascus.
4/16 only did 14.1 miles. We camped on the side of roan mountain.
It's the last 6000 foot mountain until we get to New England. The
wind was awful that night and it started raining after midnight. Not
the best place to set up camp!
4/17 17miles. woke up to pouring rain and freezing temps. It sucks
packing up when it's cold and wet. Made it to the top of roan
mountain!!! The sun eventually came out. Yay! We also left NC and are no in Tenn. we've
been hiking the border of NC/TN since the Smokys
We hiked into town to dry our clothes and get a meal. We stayed at the
Mountain Harbor b&b and hostel. The hostel was above a working barn.
It was really nice and clean but all you could smell was the horses. I
was there with Saguaro, Sherlock, Soul Searcher, Red Hat a 60 widow
who decided to come hike he trail and Braids a 24 year old veterinarian student.
So I called the local BBQ place to see how far of a walk it was. The
girl said it's less than 1/2 a mile. So me and the guys started
walking and walking and walking. All of a sudden this car pulls up.
It was the owner!!! His daughter was wrong the BBQ was over 3 miles
away! I know 3 miles doesn't sound far but after doing 17 miles the
last thing u want is to hike more miles. So the owner picked us up
and drove us th his place highland BBQ (they're on face book) had some
amazing ribs. Then he drove us all home after. People have been so
nice to us around here!
