So I’m here in Erwin Tennessee taking another day off. its 4/14 now. I’m becoming a zero hero! A zero day is when you hike no mile on the AT I hiked 68.1 miles in 4 days to get here. That includes 9 mountains climed in those miles. I’m at mile mark 339.9 now. Still 1839.2 miles to go. Leaving hot springs was tough it was a nice little town, plus I got used to the hot spring Jacuzzi every day. So on the first day out of town the dog jasper fell off a dam into the water with his dog back pack. When he was trying to get out we thought he was going to fall over the other side of the dam which was about a 30-40 foot drop. So I dumped my pack and pulled him to safety by his collar! It was the first time he ever went swimming. I think he was more scared than me and Grateful.

On 4/10/ marked my one month day! I’ve been on the trail for a whole month at times it seems so much longer than that. Also today the group finally split up. Moon pie is a day ahead, Nobody is hiking too fast to keep up with, Zip code is home but I here he’s coming back soon! and Grateful stopped at a hostel and took a short day. By no means am I alone. I’ve been hiking with another Walking man (retired army ranger) and his wife, panther and his wife, and hermit from NH. We all hike at our own pace but tend to stay at the same shelters at night.
On the 11th I crossed the 300 mile mark on Big Butt mountain. Yup that’s what its really called Big Butt! Had some great I mean great trail magic by a couple of former thru hikers. They had hot dogs , chili, cold soda’s and were making fresh homemade pizza’s on the side of the road! What a good treat after 3 days of hard hiking! I love trail magic its unexpected and amazing! Hiked my biggest day yet.

On the 12th I did 21 miles! Had some amazing views on top of Big Bald. I could see a Tennessee ski resort. Think Blue Hills but smaller. So far Tennessee is hard there are no switch backs up the mountains the trail goes straight up and straight down. A switch back is like a z going up the mountain. By going up sideways its less steep and a lot easier!

So on 4/13 hiked into Erwin had some great views of the town and river from the ridge over looking the town. So tomorrow I’ll start making my way to Damascus VA! I have one more 6000 foot mountain to climb in the process. Roan mountain it the last 6000 footer until NH!

Way to go, Stevie!!! Good to hear from you, especially when all is well, and you were a hero, too! Too bad that you can't hop a plane for the weekend and join us for Spring Fling - we'll miss you!

Stay safe, enjoy, and come home soon!
