we hiked right across Fontana dam to get into the great smoky mountain park. hiked a total of 13.5 miles. 10 of which were up hill. thats the curse of going to town. u hike down into to town and then to have to climb out of town back into the mountains! had a nice sunny day and amazing views of the mountains
14.7 miles today another nice warm day in the smokies. going to bed early have a big day tomorrow going to climb clingmans dome the highest point on the AT.
4/1 day from hell
! hiked 12.5 miles in 11 hours WTF. hiked up clingmans amazing views. it was pretty cool because of the snow the tourist road was closed so we had the summit to our selves. on the way off of clingmans the sun softened the snow so we started post holing. post holing: when u step on the snow and your foot goes though sometimes up to your hips!. not fun at all and very slow and tiring. walking man went off trail and then got stuck in the snow. Mississippi came to help and tin tin (from england) dropped his pack and ran 1/2 mile up the trail to help. I'm really proud of the guys up here everybody helped then we redirected the trail so others would not get stuck. then the group hiked out of the snow together. when it got tough we stuck together and helped everyone out. really a good feeling to have since I've known these guys less than a month. i fell at least 20 times that day. grateful who's a 6'6'' 270lb Texan must've fell even more! and zip code just danced across the snow. i guess sometimes it helps to be small! lol despite all the snow it was really sunny and hot from the sun reflecting from the snow. we ran out of water at one point and had to boil snow to make water. finally got into Gatlinburg. rented a room and headed right to all you can eat shonneys. we did some damage there and grateful's mom picked up the tab! Gatlinburg is a crazy town its right outside the smoky national park, down the road from Dolley wood. its like a cheesy Vegas strip except without the gambling. which is down the road at the Indian casino
so i made to Gatlinburg hiked 40 miles in 3 days to get here. so to go back a little bit
