Last night was my second night in Comibra, and around 8:30, I headed out to find some dinner at a place I had passed the day before. It turned out to be closing, so I went back to another place on the way with outdoor tables. Looked over at the menu on display and realized it wasnīt dumbed down into English for me. It was going on 9 so I didnīt bother trying to find somewhere else to eat, so I just decided to pick something since it didnīt matter what they brought me. I managed to point out something to the waiter, but they didnīt have that, nor the second thing I picked. He pointed at something they did had so I just nodded yes. Grilled pork, fries, and lemon flavoured rice and salad. Hmmm, not bad. It was so good. Totally simple but tasty. Itīs cool not knowing what youīre going to get. Not sure what I would have said about it if I had gotten something I didnīt like mind you.

So I left Coimbra this morning at 9:00 and couldnīt get a bus to Leiria until 11:15. I knew I was going to be locked out of the hostel by noon, so I was hoping the driver drove fast. Not fast enough and arrived in Leiria just after 12. Took me ages to find the darn place, with no signs pointing the way. I also had no info on Leiria whatsoever. Legs were killing me and I was just about to throw it all on the ground on the street and give up when I found it. Unfortunately reception was closed until 6. Great. I had been in town for half an hour and was not thrilled. I thought about just going back to the bus station and to the next town with a hostel, but luckily the hostel door opened for someone and I followed them in where the receptionist let me throw my bags down for a few hours. Thank god! I guess Iīll be staying the night anyway. Not a very impressive city, I might have skipped it had I known anything about it. Huge 12 century castle in the middle of the city not far from the hostel, so I headed there first. Little bit of a hike up, and I was completely dead tired. Picture old ladies blowing past me up the hill. I finally made it, and it was pretty cool. Only €1.10 to get in. Not bad at all. The castles and monuments here Iīve noticed are different from those in the UK as here, there are no plastic stands describing every rock, nook, and cranny. No bathrooms, or resturants or gift shops. Just the place to buy a ticket and then your free to roam. Interesting. Castle had huge big walls all around it that you could walk along on these staircases. Old bell tower, church, royal palace, stables. Mostly all ruins now. Still it was really nice on the top of the hill with the wind blowing. Totally deserted too! Thatīs about it for Leiria though. I had planned on two nights here, but there is nothing left to do, so Iīm not sure where Iīll go tomorrow. I get to Lisbon for the 22nd so Iīm excited for that. Until next time, next town...
