The back story will be in brief. After a long time of sacrifices and mundane work, I decided to go on a well deserved holiday. From that one trip, I caught the travel bug and many trips were spawned. However whilst abroad, a good friend had a heart to heart conversation with me. One of the questions he asked: 'would you ever go backpacking?' At that time I was apprehensive and stated I probably would not. In the next couple of months, it slightly ate at me and I decided that I would go the following winter bided that I made enough money to be self sufficient. (Note: I like to do things by myself and do not like relying on people. This pertains to debt; I do not like being on the back foot). Aside to the financial subject, there was an academic subject as well. My qualification would be completed in the following summer and getting away for a while before full time work would be perfect. Unbeknown to me, fate would throw a spanner into the works.

For those in the know, the next sentence would come as no surprise. After enduring years of stress with work and study, I was drained and made every effort to secure my backpacking trip. Something needed to change in my life and what better way than to press a reset button. I diligently worked two jobs over summer with one at night. This was not for the faint hearted but I had a goal in mind; travel. Fast forward to mid November: I hand in a letter of resignation. A ton of weight had been lifted off my shoulders but that was nothing in comparison to the ecstasy of finishing my last day. For the next ten days, I got everything in order, wished friends and family farewell and got ready to being carefree.

To my friend who inspired the backpacking adventure: words really cannot express how grateful I am both for the advice and support. I am a very different person than the one that left these shores in 2010. Again, if it was not for you I would not have had this experience. It truly is the best thing I have done. Many thanks.
