I headed up to Mackinaw City. It is a nice area but very touristy. I went to the park near the Mackinaw Lighthouse. There was plenty of parking on the street. You have to pay to get into the lighthouse but just the views of the lake and the bridge to the upper peninsula is worth stopping for
I decided to make my way up to the Upper Peninsula, or the U.P. as they call it. The bridge is pretty long and kind of reminds me of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland. It's a whole other world once you get to the UP. There is so much forest area and not much to look at. I wanted to see a moose! But I only saw a few different kinds of birds. I drove to Tahquamenon Falls State Park, which is supposed to be the "Niagara Falls" of Michigan. There are 2 different areas, the lower falls and the upper falls. I only went to the lower falls (which was still a bit of a walk to get to....the upper falls was another mile away). There were people in the water swimming right around the falls! I wanted to make it to Pictured Rocks but I didn't have much time, it was starting to get dark, and there is no cell phone service up there! I didn't want to get stuck in an area by myself so I decided to skip it. I had enough time to stop at the Manistique East Breakwater Lighthouse to get some photos. Then I headed along the UP towards Wisconsin and stayed at the Baymont Inn in Green Bay.
