What I did
Presque Isle Lighthouse
Forty Mile Point Lighthouse
Petoskey State Park
Gaylord is such a cute little town! It kind of reminds me of my home town, Marshall. Today is Alpenfest! This is definitely a town gathering and festival, it seemed as if everyone knew each other. I totally looked like a tourist just because I didn't know anyone! They kicked off Alpenfest with a parade in the morning. Everyone was dressed in their Swiss attire and walked down the main street. Before all the festivities started they had free donuts and coffee for everyone! I stayed for a little while and people-watched and then headed out.
I drove to Alpena to see the lighthouse there. It is a small red lighthouse that sits on Lake Huron. There's a walkway to view the lighthouse but it's definitely a bit of a hike.
I left Alpena and headed up the coast to Presque Isle
I headed up north towards Mackinaw City. I didn't stay here long because I would be coming back here in a few days to go to the Upper Peninsula (UP). I headed along the western coast of Michigan towards Petoskey. This is a nice area and reminds me a little of Rhode Island. I went to Petoskey State Park to look for Petoskey Stones but I couldn't find any. They are probably a lot harder to find than I think. I love the town of Petoskey! It's on a hill and overlooks Little Traverse Bay. It's not too big of a town but not small either. I stayed in the Econo Lodge. It wasn't too bad but a little expensive for one night. I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow!
