After a day of tromping around Machu Pichu, we climbed up its near neighbor Putu Kusi. This is the dramatic peak across the valley, carved out by the tumbling river at its feet. It looked not only like an exciting destination itself, but a unique vantage point of Machu Pichu.

The hike was short but sweet, and sometimes STEEP, with a few sections that required ladders. The lower section was cool and shady in the thick woodland jungle. The upper section was vegetated with grasses, flowers, and bushes....very interesting botanically but provided very little shade. We were both drenched when we got to the top, but my travel undies are quite modest so I ditched most of my clothes for some post-Incan sun worship.

The hike was great, as were the views of Machu Pichu!
