Last night was a rough night, both literally and figuratively. Seas were rough, cookies were tossed, the heavens rained mercilessly, the boat leaked liberally. BUT we awoke in one of the most idyllic places I have ever been, and one of my favorite days of the trip.
CHINA HAT
Nice visit with sea lion pups on arrival
Penguins on land and swimming
AMAZING snorkeling
BAINBRIDGE ROCKS
Small island formed from the peak of an extinct voclano. The caldera forms a brackish lagoon inhabited by a colony of flamingos.
ISLA BARTOLOME
Small island of volacnic desolation¨ composed of dozens of small volcanic cones
Oasis of a sandy isthmus mid-island
Sea turtle nests, even on very high steep dunes
Soft leathery egg shells scattered around (predation? hatchlings?)
Once used for bomb practice by American in WW II
Erosion and bombing formed the magnificent Pinnacle Rock
Snorkeling highlights
HUGE spotted eagle rays swam underneath me
Smaller ray species
Penguins swimming - AMAZING!
