Thursday 3rd May.
Early again! Got the ferry from Nelly Bay to Townsville and then boarded another GreyHound bus, this time to Mackoy. It was about 5hours on the bus again but sleeping is a good way to pass the time. When we got to Mackoy we got picked up by a nice man from our hostel - Larakin Lodge. He was really nice and we were pleased when we got to the hostel as it was really homely and comfy. We had our own room which is nice as we can come and go without disturbing anyone. We had curry for dinner and then Stef made some yummy oaty cookies. YUM!
Friday the 4th of May
Today we had a nice late start, at 11.30 got on our little tour with 2 other people on the way to Eungella National park (Platypus spotting grounds).
Along the way we had a little learn about the sugar cane industry - not the more riveting of stuff. Saw a little police station that was only open 4 hours a day mon - thurs, that had a little shed as its cell rooms!
Stopped off for lunch at a rustic pub that was meant to have MASSIVE PIES. As it turns out the Pinnalce Pub's pies were pretty puny (just for the alliteration factor), tasty though.
We then drove a lot longer - did a little rainforest walk which ended up with us knowing more than the tour guide - oh dear. Had a dip in a freezing waterhole with a waterfall.
We then tiddled along to broken creek which is where you go Platypus spotting.
It took a long time but we eventually saw a little platypus. They dont stay on the surface for long so it was hard to spot him! We followed him down the river a bit though and got LOADS of photos beacause Stef went mental with his camera! But it meant we got some pretty good shots!
After that we came back home, had some pretty basic dinner and then got our night coach (in our silly little minds we thought it would be good to experience one of them! 14hours later we realised what a bloody mistake we made!!)
We ended up in Rainbow beach at about 12 (noon)
