16th
We checked in our hotel called Motherland 2 at 7:30 and got some breakfast and lots of coffee.
We walked for a bit but found that this town is not only enormous but also incredibly dirty and hot (already in the morning it was around 38) in fact we both had a déjà vu, It's very much like India ... indeed many of the faces are from those regions. So after half an hour we had enough and took a rickshaw to a pagoda, which was a disappointment, but probably that's because we are spoiled after Bagan.
Than we took a taxi to a very fancy place called coffee circle with
ridiculous prices but we were fed up and needed a treat. Finally here they had ok wifi and I could work on the blog for once. We stayed there till 5 pm and than we took another taxi to the biggest and probably most beautiful pagoda in Myanmar the Shwedagon Paya Pagoda. We got there at exactly the right time as sunset was setting in and we could take beautiful pictures. I took a few with the Iphone for the blog but a lot with the camera. Suddenly I saw a familiar face and a camera team around him. Funny to see our Belgian politician Didier Reynders walking around. He looked at me and probably saw I recognized him so he came to give me a hand, as we said we lived in Antwerp he spoke to us in Dutch. Actually one of those real bilingual Belgian politicians !
Anyway we staid there until the sun disappeared and took a cab back to the hotel !

17th
We got up around 9 after a good night sleep which we needed as we were tired due to the trip the night before and the extreme warmth yesterday. Today we'll go to the market and walk around a bit, we'll see. We've just done our check-in for our flight back to Bangkok.
Can't wait to get back to our apartment, relax in luxury and have our last 10 days back on the beach and around the pool. We are happy that we've seen Myanmar but we're happy to get back to Thailand as well. It's so dirty here, Mandalay was more like Kathmandu but here the people are less friendly and everything is pretty disgusting. On top of that they take us for walking dollar bags and ask you prices completely crazy for what you get. You know me, that doesn't really work so we already had a few small arguments :-)
This afternoon we found a perfect place to eat and get on finally good wifi in the Panorama hotel so we stayed there for a few hours and than walked back to our hotel.

18th
After breakfast we took a taxi to a hotel that in the Lonely Planet would accept outside people after paying 5$ each. When we arrived the reception explained us that the hotel changed their policy .... F....!!!! I really got pissed off ! Stupid Lonely Planet not being up to date !
We walked back out and went direction a Lake where we could walk for a bit and where we found the city Zoo. I'm not to keen on animals in cages but at least there were trees and shadow.
After that it was around 2 pm so we started walking back to the panorama hotel to have lunch and get on the net.

19th
This morning our flight back to Bangkok was around 12:00 so we needed to be at the airport around 10, our taxi would take an hour to get there so had breakfast and we left at 9:00 in a shared taxi with two German girls.

Andrea's thoughts on Myanmar.

We are almost at the end of our trip to Myanmar. We had wonderful days in Mandalay, Bagan, Inle lake and Yangon. We loved the temples especially in Bagan and the Shwedagon Paya pagoda in Yangon. The last is for sure the most beautiful and one of the most gorgeous that we have seen. It was lovely to see it at sunset.

Myanmar is a very special country. It is a mix between many cultures and if you read the history you understand why. Here in Yangon we see for example a lot of Indian people.
The prices are high comparing with what you receive as service and hygiene. The hotel rooms are mediocre for higher prices than a nice bungalow on the beach in Thailand. We do not understand this very well! They think we are rich and we should pay a lot.

The hygiene is very bad. It looks a lot like India. Everywhere we see that people do not clean anything. For us personally this is very annoying.

Like in India men chew leaves ( a sort of tobacco) all the time. They spit it afterwards all over the place and the color is read like blood. It looks like they spit blood. Terrible! Some women do this too but usually it's the men doing this.

The people in Myanmar are usually very kind. Specially in Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake. They like to laugh and it looks like they are happy. It gives us a wonderful feeling to see that.

The women do not want to become brown and they all use Tanaka the whole time to protect them from the sun. They find weird to see that we walk unprotected in the sun.

The weather at this time of year is not the best to travel to Myanmar. We won't come here again in this period and we will certainly plan some days on the beach in Myanmar.

We thought Myanmar was a very poor country, but we have the idea that the people here are not so poor. We see many motorcycles and many people with smartphones. They are buying things on the street the whole time and when you want to buy some souvenir they won't go under the price that they have in mind. The rivers are still full of fish and they have fruits and vegetables everywhere.

It was perfect to come to visit Myanmar, but because of the weather, the busy people and roads we are also very happy to go back to our apartment in Jomtien. We need some relax days before going back home.
It has been a terrific experience and one of the most special countries we have visited. We will come back, but we are afraid that then it will be a completely different country. People here love money like everyone in the world. They are building a lot and when everything is finished we will miss the real Myanmar! But it is inevitable! Life is like that. People always want more and sometimes they don't realize they are already very happy.

The people from Myanmar have great expectations from their idol Aung San Suu Kyi. They want her to win the elections in 2015. They think that then everything will be much better. This is what we think in Brazil after every election! We think some kind of miracle will happen and everybody will have a lot of money with the new president. It is funny how we are so simple minded. I wish I could be like that.
