The Carrbelle Beach resort is very nice, and we enjoyed our few days here. We spent one afternoon with a lovely couple, Ed & Sue who have done a lot of RV'ing, and have been to every state in the USA.  They gave us some good tips and advice of places to stay etc.  They were great, and it was such a help.  Ed has also visited Israel, so we enjoyed talking about that.  We spent half a day visiting St George Island, & walked along the beach.

Next stop was Santa Rosa Island, in an area that is called the Panhandle (still in Florida) and stayed  in a national park for 3 nights, Topsail Hill Preserve.  One afternoon we rode our bikes the 2 miles down to the beach.  At Michaels suggestion, we rode on a very sandy track, "because we have mountain bikes, and we can go anywhere"!!!   We didn't get very far, and  my bike slid out, and went flat on my face.  I received the usual question from Mike...(REALLY trying to sound concerned). "what did you do that for"......My reply...."It is something I have wanted to do for a while now, see the ground close up, thats why.....  (This falling thing seems to becoming a habit with me, as the next day for whatever reason, while trying to go from a dirt section onto the road, over I went again! )  Talk about 'UNCO'!  Now I have bruises!  But I am tough, and got straight back on the bike again, and I am sure, that someone ahead of me was trying NOT to laugh!!  My worry is that I will do the falling over trick when we are among traffic.  Now that would NOT be good.

THE RAIN:

The sky looked very threatening, but Mike assured me it would not rain.  We had just gone to the end of a boardwalk overlooking the beach...me walking, (as the sign said NO bikes allowed) ....and Yep, Mike on his bike.  Within 5 minutes, the heavens opened up, and it just bucketed down. (I think it was retribution for Michael not being able to read the sign!!).  We hurried back to my bike then  peddled as fast as our unfit legs would go, but 2 miles is a long way when it is raining and we got absolutely drenched.  And of course we had to stop to film and take photos.  We felt like kids again, having fun in the rain.  Our little grandchildren would have loved to see Papa & Grandma looking like 2 drowned giggling rats!!   Wish you had been here kids, we would have had the best fun ever.   It wasn't really cold, but it was nice to have a hot shower when we got back, and the pile of wet soggy clothes straight in the dryer....well, they HAD been washed while on us, just  minus the soap!

Next day, Mike spent the morning working (as he does most mornings) and in the afternoon we drove along the beach front, and  at about 4.30pm went to a nice restaurant called Vue, which had been recommended to us.    We sat out on  balcony right on the beach front to watch the most beautiful sunset over the gulf of Mexico ... reminded us of Pt Hughes.

Three lovely ladies at the next table, heard the Aussie accent, so started to chat to us.  It was so nice,  they have been friends for years, and were having a few days away together, something they try to do once or twice a year.

Karen was knitting, and I commented on her scarf she had on.  Mike told them it was my birthday the next day, so just before they left, Lisa, Karen and Ann came over and sang Happy Birthday, and Karen gave me her scarf to keep. It was so nice of them, even though I was embarrassed.   (they are now getting our blog, and keeping in contact, Hi ladies).

THE DESERTED ISLAND
:
We had a lovely day on my birthday.(3rd) - Mike likes to do some special things on my birthday and so after a  few hours of work , we hired a canoe at the place we were staying, then rode our bikes about 2 kms to the lake, then went in the canoe over to the other side of the lake.   We took a picnic lunch, and were hoping to walk to the beach, but it was a bit further than we thought, plus I was worried we would lose our way, and not find the canoe again.  The lake is a Dune Lake, and is one of the very few in the world.  It is a fresh water lake, with sand dunes between it and the sea.

We pulled the canoe up on shore, and I think we picked the place that no-one has ever been, so had to hack our way through the bushes, with esky in hand, and Boofie & Dummar of course, to get to a place to sit and have lunch.   It was nearly as good as our time in Israel, when we had to crawl through bushes & prickles near the city of Dan for those who were on that trip with us.

We were the only ones around, and  I kept thinking there was a murderer behind every tree, and there were strange footprints everywhere, (which we found out later were deer tracks).  Michael was in his element, and of course it was the Abominable snowman, the Yetti, the creature from the black lagoon, Freddie Kruger! You name it, he was here!!  (Barry Steele would understand all this, from what I have been told Barry scared his little brother with frightening stories when Mike was only 3 years old ... now he is doing the same to me .... and the grandkids!!!!  - thanks Barry!! Ha!)  Anyway  sense finally prevailed, and yes Mike can be serious, so we had our lunch,  then did a Bible reading, and had very enjoyable afternoon.

That night we went back to the wonderful Vue restaurant for dinner, and our waiter told us that the loud 'bangs' we had heard earlier in the day was the Airforce practicing bombing out at sea. Imagine that happening off Semaphore or Brighton!!!

Anyway, bye for now, thanks for reading the blog, and for your comments,   keep safe and well,  God bless....Miss you all
