BACK IN ORLANDO

During the week we went to Walmart and purchased 2 bikes and helmets.  Mike test rode his bike down one of the aisles, and nearly took out a whole shelf when his seat fell,
and he almost crashed!!  Just imagine Mike riding the aisle’s of a huge shopping centre ... picking up speed and WHAM ... the seat collapses and down he goes ...  OUCH!! I just stood there and couldn’t stop laughing!  It should be very interesting and funny for people to watch  these two Aussie novices trying to ride their bikes ...  especially after they have had a
good laugh at us trying to park and set up the RV.

On Tuesday, dad and mum relaxed at the unit, while we took some of our stuff to the RV.  We also had to take the van we had hired back to rental place, and this is where I had to really come out of my comfort zone.  We are now going to use our little Suzuki Grande Vitara, so I had to follow Mike and drive the rather large rental van, as the Suzuki is manual. I can drive a
manual, but I was panicking enough about driving on the wrong side of the road for the first time, without the added worry of using gears on a car I had never driven before, and not revving too
much, or bunny hopping down the highway. I think the whole of Florida was on the road today, it seemed more congested than usual, and here we were having to cross 3 lanes to go round a
turnpike, then onto another freeway! Anyway we both survived, and I managed to get the van back without crashing it.  YAY!  Mike kept talking to me on the walkie talkie the whole way, he was a darling and so patient.

Dad helped Mike put a frame onto the back of the car to hold the bikes.  Enjoyed a few days
relaxing at the resort, swimming and going in the spa.

We went to the Epcot theme park for the day, got there early and hired 2 wheelchairs and wheeled dad and mum round for the day.  Mum was most embarrassed at first, thinking everyone was looking at them, but when she realized that they weren't the only
ones, and quite a few people use them, she was better.  Dad took to it like a duck to water, he was in his seat so fast, and he just loved all the attention!!  We had a lot of fun, even though it is quite hard work, especially when we had to go up a ramp, or over a bridge etc.  It certainly was a good workout for us. We spent the day looking at all the different country's exhibitions. Epcot is such a huge place, mum & dad would have found it difficult to walk as far as we did.  We stayed till the end to watch the choir and then the fireworks. It was best singing and orchestra we have heard, and the fireworks were just amazing.

Because Dad and mum were wheelchair “patients”, we got special attention during the day for any rides, then when we arrived at the open air theatre for the concert with about 2000 others, we were ushered to special seats near the front.  Mike even helped mum out of her wheelchair to guide her to her seat.  The wheelchairs were then taken to the back for us to get at the conclusion of singing.  The only problem is that the singing (which ended with the Hallelujah
Chorus at 9.05pm) is over one side of the park, and the best viewing point for the fireworks is over the other side and the distance between is a long way.  As soon as the singers finished,
before the clapping even started, we told mum and dad to get up and follow us to the back.  This "poor frail elderly couple" were seen to be able to suddenly leap up from their seats, run to the back of the theatre,  get into their wheelchairs, then their carers were off and running like maniacs, to get to the other side before the fireworks started at 9.30pm.  Wow, I think we did it in record time, round corners, over the bridge, through and around people, we were so out of breath and laughing.  I kept imagining afterwards, what could have happened if I had hit a bump, mum could have gone flying!!   We had a special area for those 'frail' ones, so we got a good spot and enjoyed the fireworks.  Such a great day.

Anyway, bye for now, thanks for reading the blog, keep safe and well,  God bless.
