Grandma's House!

Sorry everyone for my lack of punctuality of completing this blog. When i went to my grandma's in Poland she doesn't have internet.

Well.....where do i start with this one?!

Most of you know that i do have some European roots in me!! Unfortunately my birth mother skipped out on my life when i was 7 years old. No, i don't have mommy issues because my mom Kelly is the best mom i could have asked for!! She is incredible and i am so happy she saved me from a life of hurt. Well she saved me from most of the hurt. I've had this weird calm understanding about my life and what had happened to my sister and i. I just didn't feel the hurt that most think i should or would feel. But i will say this trip has been very eye opening for me. I discovered that i am part Polish and Austrian on my grandfathers side. I didn't think i had Polish roots. That was pretty incredible. I did find out that my great grandfather was an SS officer in the German military...kinda crazy, but it's life. Because of that, after the war my family had to change their names to avoid my great grandfather getting arrested. Super crazy!! I can't imagine my dad coming home and telling me that my name is no longer Anastassia Perkins, but Jane Smith (example) from now on. Such a crazy thing to think about. I found out that i have 6 cousins! So awesome the amount of family that i have! AND they are so welcoming and loving. I felt so comfortable with them all!! My grandparents are separated, but i got to meet them both. My grandfather is funny and as this sweetness to him. My grandmother is a caretaker by heart. I don't think i went without eating for more than 3 hours! lol. I learned a lot of Polish words while there!! I wont put them here, but you all can ask if interested! I tried so many dished!! Beef Tatar was probably the craziest!! Raw meet with a raw egg. It has like pickles and other things you mix with it, but you mix all of it together and put it on bread. I'm still alive so i think it was okay! ha. The taste was interesting. Not bad, but not sure i would eat it on a regular basis!!

My grandparents live on the border of Poland and Czech Republic!! So cool to be able to walk over to the Czech side and get some good beers!! Oh and i can drink with my grandparents....love that!!

On the hard stuff..... i got to know some things about my birth mother that i never knew before. She played the guitar and piano. She apparently was a singer as well. She was a very outspoken person and was able to get whatever she wanted. Manipulation is probably a good word for that! ha. She seemed like the life of the party and always making the best out of her life. She was married at 19 and moved to the USA at 19 or 20. She also still talks to my grandparents. That kinda hit home. I never got her side on why she left us or what her side of the story was, but knowing that i have two brothers i have never met and that she lives only 30 mins away is so crazy. I don't think i ever felt abandoned before until i heard she was so close. idk...i had my mom (Kelly) and it never seemed to hurt as much. Hearing about the kind of person she was/is from my family seems like someone i wish i knew. It's just unfortunate that she missed out on our lives. She didn't get to see us grow into the people we are today. This is where my thought of Nature vs. Nurture comes in. I also heard that she might have had cancer before and that she is sick now. Not sure what is true. There were a lot of questions i wanted to ask, but didn't know if it would upset my grandparents or not. Just a crazy experience!!

Back to Poland....it was beautiful!! Mountains and trees....so many colors!! I loved it there!! I also went to Auschwitz which was very confronting and sad!! Check out the pics from there!

Well I would love to visit again!! I will post pics of the time there!! Sorry for the emotional stuff!! ha
