I caught my rideshare with Nafis, Alan and Imad at the Greyhound Station. Not exactly the most convenient pickup place, but it was OK.
We just drove straight until we got to Toronto. It was about 10:30 ish when I got there. Nafis dropped Alan off at Scarborough Town Centre, and Imad and I went to Yorkdale, because apparently it is closer to downtown.
So, I called John and he was about to go over to see some band I had no idea what it was. OK, fine, I will meet you there soon.
I tried to call Eugene, to no avail. I had written the number down wrong on my paper, ugh.
So I met John and his friends at The Gladstone. I even got there before them... two subways and two more streetcars, and I got there faster, nyah to that.
Some strange art-rock band was onstage and nobody wanted to hear it except me. Soon, I didn't even want to hear it, so I joined everyone else in the karaoke part of the venue. That was also terrible.
Lisa is really into this Spookey Ruben band, but no one else really knew what it was. So, whenever they came back onstage, we all went out there and tried to dance around to it. But it was just terrible.
They tried to revive the show by throwing processed cheese slices and bringing dancing Ukrainian ladies out on the stage. Still terrible.
At the very end, one of the band's biggest fans got dressed up like an owl and danced around. It was so pathetic I had to get a picture of him. Sorry Spookey Ruben, I hate you.

Dear Starlagurl,
I understand that we are not a normal Nickleback type band and we like to dress up for fun and do weird things on stage. If you didn't 'get it' that's fine. But we 'SUCK' and you 'HATE' me? ouch...that's harsh. Why so anti-creativity?
-Spookey
p.s. Who's the girl smiling in the picture with O.T. Biggs (our owl)? Is that the girl who hates me?
Yep, that's me.
Personally, I don't understand Nickelback either...
And I like dressing up and doing weird things on stage, but there is cheese and then there is doing actually interesting things. Throwing pre-wrapped cheese into the audience is schmaltzy, it's true, but it's very appropriate for your particular style of entertaiment.
Pure cheese, through and through.
ok fine we're cheese through and through like ABBA or something like that. But why you gotta hate me? You don't even know me! To say that we suck is mean - especially to my bandmates - they are the best musicians in the city.
I don't really care if you think I'm mean... I don't like your band, you suck.
Dear Starlagurl,
thanks for your support. You're a gem.
sincerely,
spookey
You are quite welcome.
Thank you so much. I am intrigued by the quality and thoughtfulness of the blogging carried out by the TravelPod staff. Keep up the love and righteous work, Travelpod!
I like my blog. You don't have to.
spookey is an awesome artist.... in all the mediums he uses. too bad that your mind is so dense to hear true talent..... btw i was that owl... and thanks for bombing my photo hater!
I appreciate your opinion, but we all have our own tastes don't we? I do not like this band, there I said it. Now get on with your life.
Wow, worst blog entry ever. I don't say that because I'm a fan of Spookey but because you dismiss him without even a thought. You don't attempt to understand what was going on around you, you simply feel uncomfortable and fart words out in some nonsensical order as a response.
Spookey is right, the band are some of the absolute best musicians in the industry let alone the city.
It's okay to not understand something but sometimes you have to realize that your ignorance is shielding you from experience.
The good news is, this blog was written in such a spastic and reactionary way that no one would ever take your opinion seriously. I just think it's a shame that you wasted a perfectly good opportunity to enjoy some truly original music created by a guy who absolutely loves to entertain and explore.
You just don't get it
Yes, it was hateful. Because I hate this band.
ha lol. i was just looking up why anyone liked this guy and found this. I agree that he sucks. Its pritty sad that he is soo hurt by your coments. His so called "art" is just sad. I think I shit in a box and it would make more sense.
Hahaha, yes. You just made my day. I am glad that there are still people with taste out there. It's good to know that I am not the only one who hates Spookey Ruben.
