an eventful start to canada......the guest house we booked had failed to let us know that they had no vacancies but gave us a number for an alternative stay.  i rang it from the airport and he gave directions to stay with them.  when we arrived we found ourselves in a block of about 1,000 flats with a reception area which had closed for the night.  we asked a couple of residents who could do little to help and one guy let me use his mobile phone to call the same number I made no contact with the guy so left a message saying 'come to reception we have not got a clue where to go!' herd nothing, things were not looking good and i was then verging on my limit after a full days travel and needing food.
Em - I was also very conscious of the fact that it was gone 8.30pm and getting dark. Then the mounties arrived!! Two policemen happened to walk through reception, Matt explained our situation and they very kindly offered to take us to a local hotel (best western) in a better area. We both sat in the back of the police car and they gave us
a tour of the area before dropping us at the hotel. We spent more than we should have on accommodation tha night, but needs must and all that.
It was a gorgeous comfortable bed and we were safe. It all felt a bit surreal.

lured in by use of the advertised 'learn the use of the english language' we moved on to stay with 'Filiz' and 'Nirmla'.....or as i called them Fritz and Nisbit.  their demonstration of english at least made us laugh, we will move on quite soon as we are living in a bunker which we have candle lit and it is only a size up from the days in my shell and just as dark!
Em - The house is fine and in a great neighbourhood/location, but we are in a bunker. Positives - clean comfy bed and great shower.
There are at least 3 other residents but we've seen only one, who we call Nimrod. The pic of Matt shows the limited facilities!!

We are now in the process of applying for jobs so keep your fingers crossed and we'll keep you posted.
Had a great day today, visited the harbour front saw the CN tower and headed to the entertainment district. The Harbour front area is a bit like the south bank with
lots of arty places. As the Toronto film festival is on there are lots of events and premieres. Look who we saw today by clicking on the pictures!! Recognise anyone?

'Things can only get better.....'!
What a horrible start to Canada, but hoorah for the Mounties! Obviously very busy with the festival on. Well done getting straight on with the job availability. Trying to work out who I recognise in pictures, will add comments!
Missing nothing back here (except perhaps space!), still rain and more rain. xx

All Character building
Matt you missed a blinder of a belgium GP. Raikonen in the lead , 5 laps from the end, rain starts to come down. Hamilton in 2nd drives the wheels off the Mclaren. Tries to over take and runs over the corner, lets the ferrari regain the place. The next corner, he re-takes the lead and Kimi smashes the ferrari in the wall. Even I was shouting and screaming at the tele because it was as good as Senna at Donington in the wet.
Low and behold get up Monday morning and the stewards decide to give Hamilton a 25 second penalty and Massa is given the win. Biggest load of effin blxs ever. You would be screaming the gaff down!! Even Ferrari have come out and said its a bit wierd. Anyway mighty glad to hear your safe and sound in France, sorry Canada. I am keeping my fingers crossed you manage to find work. All the best. Bud.

Toronto
This is more it. Real adventure. None of this lazing around a pool. Sorry to see that you only have room for one person to eat and no room for Matt to dress the top half of his body. It can only get better. Or you could come back to all this lovely rain we have in England. I know its good for your plants Matt but enough is enough. So we are off to get some sun in a luxury hotel with a pool and beautiful beach. Knew we would stop being jealous of your trip after a while. Enjoy Canada.
