Just a short visit here on our way to Antigua, Chichicastenango is famous for it's huge market and churches where the local Catholic/Mayan hybrid religion is actively practiced. No chicken sacrifices the day we were there, but plenty of other offerings being made ...

The market was a bustling, hectic crush of locals and tourists, with every type of stall imaginable over about 4 city blocks. I didn't quite have the fortitude to throw myself into the haggling throng for any actual shopping, but a great lively atmosphere!
