Sorry I havent written for a while, Ive been on a drunken bender (sorry mom and dad). Budapest was The BEST fucking city in the whole world, and the funnest hands down. We arrived in Budapest and met up with cammy's friends Matt (batty) and Dan and Dan's other friend Matt (just to make things confusing). We were all staying at the hostel, so logically we decided to play drinking games and get shlammered (similar to hammered, but with an shl). We were also with guga from portugal and victoria from brazil. After finishing a 26 of vodka each, we figured dancing was in order, even if Matt batty (who from now on I will refer to as Batty) was slightly crippled and walking on jimmycrutches. Dan guided us on a scenic route to this club called Morrisons2 where we arrived 3 hours later (just kidding, but it took forever). This place was sawwweeeeet! There were 2 floors: the main floor which was an outdoor patio with 3 different bars, and the lower floor which was a mix of karaoke, shots and lots of dancing. There were lotsa vodka red bulls, tequila and banana jagers involved, and it was a SUPER good night! I really truly wish I could provide further details but....well, if i knew the details, i would write about them. GREAT night. got home around 5 i think, and that is the end of day one in budapest. it was super productive.
Day 2 came around 10 AM the next day and greeted me with a massive hang over. However, everyone was going for sushi and so I couldnt say no. Cammy and I charmingly ate 25 pieces of sushi and a bowl of soup (each), and it was super deliecious. At this point we also were jopined by Julienne and Tim, who will probably be mentioned in this blog later on. Cammy and I split up from the guys because we found shopping, and this day i retail-therapied my hang over away by spending 600 euros. oops. Anyway, for supper we found this random wine cellar restaurant and had goulash, beef stew, and gnochhi with cheese anad prawns. it was good, but it needed salt. Im not sure what I did the rest of the day, but I know we eventually met up with the guys and guga nad victoria for the world cup game! The game was playing on a huge projector screen which was only 2 minutes from our hostel, so we went and joined hundreds (possibly thousands) of hungarians and cheered for spain in the world cup game, except for cammy who cheered for the netherlands....in your face, cammy. From here Cammy passed out and we lost Matt and Julienne, so Me, Dan, Batty and some other random aussys went to find ourselves a club. We found some bar that looked like it was in a metro station in the middle of this random park. It was really cool actually and when the bar shut down we went tothe park and hung out with a bunch of random hungarians til about 330. Me n Dan decided to head back to the hostel, but I think everyone else stayed out until like....7 or 8? Anywho!
Day 3 was one of the best. Us and the guys (who i will now refer to as the wolfpack of pteridactyls due to some gross insdie joke involving a video of pteradactlyn porn...dont ask) went across the Chain Bridge from the PEst side where we had been this whole time and crossed into the BUda side of Budapest. We spent like an hour hitting over wooden french men in a park for beer (Batty won...obviously), and then headed to the labirynth. By this time we lost Dan, Matt, and Tim, ....but we fouind them later. So much for the suspense. Anyway these things are like man made tunnels underneath the BUda castle and are creepy as hell! It's suddenly cold and you can see your breath so you just know you're surrounded by dead people. They have all these weird sound effects of beating hearts and people moving around, and it is like, terrifying. But cold and because it was like 40 degrees outside, I was sold. There is this giant half a head randomly sticking out of the floor which is like, 5 feet tall and they claim it was some king who turned to stone or something. We decided it was actually Matt because he's like 12 feet tall. There was also a fountain of bllooooood which was red wine and possibly vinegar, we still haven't decided which. Anyway those were cool and we found Matt Dan and Tim in the maze which was the labarynth. Having the wolfpack back together again, we decided to go to a wine tasting that Id seen on the internet. It was also underneath the BUda Castle in these old caves/wine cellars. We paid the equilent to probably 25 canadian dollars-ish and got to try 8 wines and 1 shot of the terror which is palinka (a traditional Hungarian brandy which, according to recent studies, makes everyone throw up). We also got cheese scones and cheese platters to compliment the wines, and it was SO GREAT. Our somolier/server knew EVERYTHING about each wine and told us where it was from, the vintage, the story behind the name,, something about the region it came from, what it tasted like and what it smelled like and stuff. I felt like we were all really unpolished snobs hahahaha. We then headed back to the hostel, and me Dan n Cammy found a sushi place along the way and obviously had to stop and eat (Dan loves food just as much as me and Cammy and this is why we are all good friends haha). Me and Cammy packed it in for this night beause we were tired and possibly still hung over, so this is where THIS day ends.
Day FOUR now was a good one too. Cammy and I went ot the famous baths in BUdapest (I'm not sure why but every time I capitalize a B on this computer, the U comes with it, hence the constant BUda that I keep typing by accident...moving on)ANyway its kinda like the spa or something, theres 8 thermal baths of different temperatures...because this was another 40 degree day we spend it mostly in the cold one, and the other cold one. IT was really awesome, theres this like round about thinger that when you step into it the water pushes everyone around in a circle...its apparently really hard to get out of...I had to step on 3 small children just to escape. But it was fun. We spent our whole day here, then took the metro back to our hostel (we got a ticket from the frickin police though first because we didn't validate our ticket.....meh) At this point we lost Batty because he went to couch surf at one of his friends places. We met 3 brittish girls at our hostel, a couple aussys and a scottish dude, and so we all went out and drank in the park by our place for a while. Then Cammy went home to sleep (this is one of her recent favourite hobbies) and we all headed to Morrisons2 again for drinks and dancing. Now, THIS is a little blurry but I have a lot of pictures with randoms who I apparently made BFFs with and welll....from what I remember, it was a GREAT night. That's all I got from here on out.
Anywho, the next day we headed to Bratislava and managed to trick Matt and Dan into coming with us. Yes, Brataslava IS the shitty place that made an appearance in Eurotrip, but it is actually a pretty cool city. Wahoo! We stayed at HOstel Blues, which is really sweet, and there was a b lues concert the night we got ther.e ...The first night we just kinda wandered around right into this sweet restaurant that grilled everything on the BBQ yummm so this is what we ate
-2 meat platters with beef, chicken, sausage
-3 acid salads..(its just pickled stuff, which doesnt sound nearly as exciting)
-2 MASSIVE racks of delicious ribs
-6 pints of beer
-3 bottles of wine
go team
Anywho, we wanted to go dancing so we wandered aimlessly trying to find a club before we realized that there are a ton of clubs in brataslava, just noone goes to them. So we made our own partay annnnndddd......headed home. It was sweet because there were like 20 beds in the room we were in, and the 4 of us got the ENTIRE place to ourselves, but matt snores so me and cammy sleopt on the floor (thanks a lot matt hahaha). The next day Cammy and I wandered aimlessly and were sweating and gross and grumpy because it was way too hot outside, and then, out of nowhere, comes a well air conditioned heaven godsend of a shopping mall. A SHOPING MALL. THEY DO NOT HAVE MALLS IN EUROPE. Dear God. We were sooO greatful for the shopping and the AC that I spent $700, some of which went to more luggage as I am now completely out of room. Anywho, we went back to the hostel, got ready, then went to this UFO restaurant, which is like 20 stories in the sky and has the most amazzing view of the city and is fucking expensive and looks like a UFO. We spent 75 EURO each on a 7 course meal which came with.....let me try to remember
1) a mixed baby lettuce salad with pomegranite vinegarette, bacon chips and rabbit leg
2) soup with roasted black root (?) and cranberries...it tasted like cauliflour soup and twas good
3) kangaroo goulash, which by the way? Om>G!!!!!!!!!! I love kangaroo judge we if you will but it was incredible
4)grilled halibut with chinese black rice and saffron sauce
5) rack of wild boar (also yum)
6) mixed cheese platter
7) a cranberry pudding dessert with real cranberries and cream or something it was good i'm not really in to dessert
they also threw in an appetizer of who knows what, but it was great, and also some belgum chocolates. We also bought the cheapest bottle of wine of the menu which was a carmanera from chile and was $60. It was GREAT. Anyway, when we FINALLY finished like 3 hours later we went ot go find the gys at the hostel but they went to go find us and we crossed paths but by like midnight we found each other, they were already drunk, Cammy went to bed, i caught up by chugging gin and juice and beer, then me Matt and Dan went to every club we could find (again noone else was in them) on a mission to get wasted, we we all bought a round of drinks which are all 2 or 3 shots in each, and even found a club that let me plug in my iPod and listen to country and adam lambert. Booya? Do people say that still? Anyway we got really drunk, had a great time anyway, and went to bed at like 630 or so. SO fun! Anyway, we parted ways with them the next day...Me and Cammy (Cammy and I...I suck at grammar) are now in Prague but we're going to a movie with Batty now because we're hung over so I'll write about Prague later. THE END!
