Day 19 - TODAY IS OUR 30TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!

It is HOT here. in Fillmore,  Utah. Temps in the 90's. We have been debating which way to go from here. One route would take us over the Colorado Rocky Mountains and might get us home a couple of days sooner. Another route going north will take us to more National Parks. We are so ready for cooler weather. So we set our GPS to take us to Idaho Falls. We will miss seeing the Rocky Mountains (this trip).

Before we leave Fillmore, we go next door to eat at a local hamburger restaurant.  As we approach we see a large group of Hell's Angels parked there to eat. Art says, "Do you see who is here?' I say no and he tells me. I ask him, "Do you want to leave?" and he says, "NO, I want to get our picture taken with them!"  LOL   And that's what we do, along with another family eating there. We learn that they are having a convention in Spearfish, South Dakota and that is where they are headed.

After we eat we head out toward Idaho Falls. This is pretty much just a driving day, so we do not expect anything eventful. As we drive we continue seeing the beautiful mountains that we have come to expect being out West. I can never get enough of them.

It is interesting that everywhere we stop, people ask us, "Where are you from?". They can tell we are from places far away by our accent. Some people can't seem to understand us and ask us to repeat ourselves. Sometimes I feel like I am speaking a foreign language.

We finally make it to Salt Lake City. I have always wanted to see the lake, so we follow the map and find it. The lake has a large beach area, but we only see birds there and no people. We get out to take a few pictures and we can smell the salt in the air. It feels just like we are at the beach.

We continue on, taking the time to drive through downtown Salt Lake City We pass by the Salt Lake Tabernacle (Mormon Tabernacle).  I would love to have the time to go in and see the inside, but we are trying to make it to our hotel before dark. We stop at Best Buy and trade our inverter that has stopped working.

On the way out of the city we see a flame burning high above other buildings in the area. I ask Art what that is and then we see a sign telling us it is the Olympic Flame. Pretty cool to see that.

As we drive we see some very interesting and funny signs. Sometimes we can get a picture of them if we are fast enough. One sign Art read was on a gas pump. It was a threatening sign with a cop with his arms crossed warning you not to pump gas and leave without paying. It said "Pay now, or pay a severe fine later!" And then the sign said,  "It will be a $30.00 fine to the gas station owner if you leave without paying!".  LOL   Art got a kick out of that.

We drive another couple of hours and finally make it to IDAHO!!!  The temperatures are getting cooler we notice with each stop. We make a lot of stops it seems (better view, gas, restrooms, food, a second look at something, etc).

We keep driving until it is dark before we stop to eat. We do not want to miss seeing anything. We decide to eat at Red Lobster in Pocatello, Idaho. We never dreamed our 30th wedding anniversary dinner would be THERE!  Dinner is great and we finally make it to Idaho Falls and check in for the night. Tomorrow will be a LONG day. We have TWO National Parks to see and over 3 hours to drive to our hotel tomorrow night.
