This is Day 6 and we left Woodland Hills and drove down the Malibu Canyon road to Malibu. I feel in love with this town! Not commercial at all like you would imagine. (although maybe we missed that part of town).. High mountains with houses sit along the road that runs along the coast. They road is a beautiful and windy and the town's atmosphere is very easy going and peaceful. Although there are a few beaches with an average number of people, there are so many beaches we see with no people. Only surfers with boards, paddling out. Some even standing up on their boards with an oar.

The weather is amazing, with temps in the upper 70's and a slight breeze (so different from the stiff winds you can have on the Atlanta Ocean.)

We stop at a roadside outdoor business called Oasis that has everything from outdoor furniture, pots, decor, and more. Music is playing and you feel like you have entered another world. We are captivated with all of the cool California artwork and home decor. We purchase a couple of things (we couldn't resist) and pack in our car, knowing it will be full before we reach home.

We drive back down the beach and park at a small business and walk across the street to the peer where we decide to eat at the outside restaurant overlooking the peer. The waitress and her brother are from Franklin, NC. Great food, great atmosphere as the pelican swoop down over the umbrellas covering our tables.

We take a walk on the peer and there are few people.... so very laid back. We encounter a pelican who wants to make friends, sitting on the bench on the peer. He eyes us and poses for the few of us taking pictures. You can get close enough to pet him and he loves it.

We finally tear ourselves away and head up the coast.  We arrive in Santa Barbara in the late afternoon for some ice cream and to take a tour of the University of California at Santa Barbara where we have had some friends attend.

We leave SB and drive on to our final destination at Pismo Beach, which we reach after dark. We are starved and go down to the wharf area to find food at a restaurants called Chelsea's. We have entertainment.... a group of young teenage boys are riding bikes down the steep road to the wharf area on one wheel, doing wheelies and showing off.

We head back to the hotel to go to bed early so we can drive up the coast on the famous Big Sur tomorrow.
