We left Brasov at 11:15 AM, then stopped in a town called Sighisoara, which was the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. You gain entrance into the old town through the clocktower. There were a couple of museums to check out. We were especially excited to venture into the Torture Museum (which cost 3 Lei to get in and 30 Lei to take pictures). A couple of people from our tour got in first, then told us not to waste our money. Apparently all the Torture Museum consisted of was a stone room with a pair of shackles on the wall. Those Romanians love to make a buck.
Instead, Brit and I took a Bob Gander around town. We went in search (again) of cortisone cream because my hands are in real rough shape and I forgot my medicine. Finally, we found a pharmacist that could understand my sign language!
We then stopped to take a breather because the sun was scorchin'. It wasn't long before were were approached by a fat gypsy begging for money with a dustpan. Brit said, ''Don't give her any money, she's hardly starving!'' That Brit, always good for a one liner.
We carried onto Cluj Napoca in the rain, set up our tents in the rain, helped cook supper in the rain, then of course ate it in the rain. It was decided that there would be a Dracula themed punch party in celebration of our trip through Romania. Typically party poopers, Brit and I were voted best costume. We backcombed our hair and put dead leaves in it for that 'just rolled out of the grave look'. We gothed up our faces with black eyeliner and wore garbage bags as a cape/dress.
Most people were drinking, but we figured it was a bad idea to pass out in costume, so we cleaned ourselves up before going to bed.
We had made an attempt at laundry earlier in the night. We wanted to use the dryer and got up at 4AM for our turn..which is when we learned the dryer was broken. So again, we had a heaping pile of wet and soon to be stinky laundry.
If only the sun would shine..
