Finally I had managed to get a place at GP( after convincing 'm that I was not a convict out on a run or a depressed maniac out to drown myself in the sea) I settled down for a sound sleep after a long day and got up early morning at 5 a.m.
Next stop was Malvan and then on to the Sindhudurg Fort. I asked for bus routes and surprisingly the locals didn't have much of an idea ;or may be I asked the wrong people.
Anyway to cut a long story short ,I had to change three buses and finally I managed to reach Malvan.
Something about Sindhudurg killa (fort) :
Sindhu (sea) and durg (fort) , thus Sindhudurg literally means " a fort in the sea ". It is a beautiful fort constructed by the Maratha warrior king Chatrapati Shivaji in 1664 and took about 3 years to complete. The sea fort is spread over 48 acres and is surrounded by walls that are 30 feet high and 12 feet thick. The walls were designed to keep an eye on the enemy and the tides of the sea.
Regular ferry boats ply from the coast to the Sindhudurg fort. The fort itself is very grand and has some temples inside. A walk on the walls around the fort is the highlight of the fort. Actually the walls are pretty thick (12 feet ) , so one can walk around comfortably. The view of the far away Arabian sea atop the walls is breath taking.
But I was a little disappointed as there was nothing else to watch inside. All I could find around was crows and more crows! The day was hot - searing hot. And it gets none the better if you are in the middle of a sea with all its humidity - and sweat all around. :(
So after following around for an hour, I got back onto the ferry boat back to the sea coast and then back on a bus to pune.
Note:
