Finally a day of sunshine and warm weather after what seemed like an eternity of wind and rain. We started our day with a coffee and some fruit down on the jetty. After doing some research on our next destination, we packed lunch in the Car & headed to the southern shores of Lake Superior, to a town called Ontonagon, Michigan.
Looking over lake superior is similar to looking over a still ocean, vast blue, as far as the eye can see. It was good to finally see some sun, and was a good indication of what summer has in store for us! Lunch was followed by some forensic work by Rich, who managed to find evidence of Beaver life in the area! A piece of this evidence is now part of the furniture in the spruce moose. After lunch we headed into town for some fuel and spent the afternoon in the traditional american way, that being eating Giant Sundaes and shakes, reading rifle magazines.
Our path back to camp took us to the Bond Falls. A beautiful waterfall, falling over 50ft, this was an impressive sight after the let down of Sioux City. We managed to get a couple of group photos, before battler high school arrived. We left the falls and headed to a general store on the way back to the camp site to get a few supplies, including the simple item ice for the esky. Now being from abroad and having such thick accents as we do, Americans seem to struggle to understand the word 'Ice'. After having a conversation that went a little bit like this:
'Hi, im just wondering if you sell Ice'
'ICE?, whats ICE?'/
'Umm, frozen water?'
'Frozen Water???'
'Yes its Frozen water, its called Ice, and is usually in cubed form'
'Ohhhhh you mean IIIIIIIIIIIIce'
'Yes, ICE .......'
we finally managed to get our bag of Ice and headed back to the campsite for dinner.
After finishing dinner, whilst sitting peacefully around the fire, we were interupted by what sounded like a Sasquatch Hurling trees and men into the lake. Terrified, the 2 brains behind the entire operation (Lewys & Richard) suggested hiding in the car from the beast while the Zac & Gary made a group decison to head down to the lakes edge to investigate all the commotion finding only Giant fish, jumping out of the water.
We moved back to the fire where Zac continued to party with his mate fireball and bullshit to the fullist.
Day 11 highlights: Zacs party and bullshit, ability of americans to understand the word 'ice', finding reminance of a beaver dam, throwing abilities of the Sasquatch.
