Best bit: having a long chat
Worst bit: no breakfast
Distance: 140km
I feel a little less of oddity today, having met someone doing an even sillier (or more corageous) trip. Cycling along about lunchtime I came accros a French chap called Olivier on one of those "sit down" bikes. He works for a French supermarket chain (who are sponsoring him) and was happily making his way to China via Russia. I couldnt quite get my head around his bike but it did look comfy, although he struggled on the climbs and generally was slower. Apparently its whizzo on the downhills (70kph top speed! I get to about 50 and chicken out). Anyway given that he was heading off to China speaking bugger all foreign languages and with a ton of luggage so I wished him luck.
Riding in the morning was freezing cold but sunshine came out for the last couple of hours which warmed me up nicely for the last bit coming into Passau (which is another lovely medieval town). Staying in a 16 century building which has huge thick walls and is also freezing cold so I have gone for a walk and turned heating on full. Vey cheap place, all in for the reasonable sum of 35E including breakfast.
Oh, in addition to inumerable rocky gorges enticing ruined castles and dull looking churches, I passed a great place called Vilshofen where there is an runway alongside the river. Amazing. I filmed a military plane practising landings when some chap hopped out of this car (literally - he left the engine running) and then proceeded to practice his English on me. At length. He was very friendly, but by the time we got into the details of his second failed marriage (and there were no aircraft left on any horizon) I decided it was time to hit the road.
