Long time no speak - it has been over a week since my last update. I am now in Seattle but have got here by a rather round about way.

After my last entry I took the train named the Skeena from Prince Rupert in northern British Columbia to Jasper in Alberta which is a resort in the Canadian Rockies. The journey took two days and involved an overnight stop in Prince George and at times it felt like I was in a movie like The Lady Vanishes or Murder on the Orient Express - without the nasty business. there were only about 20 of us on the whole train, 5 of those in first class, so by the end we were all almost on first name terms. There was even a couple from Ecclefechan and a trio of old dears who had been in the Galapagos and Alaska as part of their trip.

The scenery on the whole journey was again amazing and I would recommend the trip to anyone - don't pay the fancy prices for the Rocky Mountaineer. We also saw a black bear and her wee cub - honestly but it was impossible to get a photo.the train seemed to stop in the middle of nowhere to pick up or drop off passengers - I meant to check if these were request stop. I cannot describe either in words or with my photos just how magnificent the Rockies are - really awe inspiring - gush gush. The weather was again excellent so we were lucky to see Mt Robson, which is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, as apparently it is cloud covered for all  but 14 days of the year

While in Jasper I took the tramway to the top of Mt. something or other - not too scary. More scary was the walk back from the local cinema to my B & B when I encountered Mr and Mrs Elk having a late evening snack on someone's front lawn. He was huge with big ............. antlers! I just had to stop and wait till they trotted off.

Next stop Banff, via Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefield - the bus only had 4 of us and would you believe it the other 3 had been on the train! Stayed at the YWCA in Banff but drew the line at a dormitory bed , pone does need to have some standards dahlings! Actually I might have gone for it but they had no security lockers.

Met up with my friend Wendy again and stayed with her in Calgary for a few days - she says Hi to Elaine, Jane, Phyllis and Anne and will be back in Scotland in November so maybe we can all meet up. Enjoyed walking around Calgary which is just gearing up for the Stampede yee hah. Shame that I am going to miss all that line dancing, me being such a fan. Got to meet some of Wendy and hubby Tony's hockey mates who were a really nice bunch - and many of them Scots - must be something about Calgary that attracts them.

Next stage of the journey was the Greyhound Bus from Calgary to Seattle, via Vancouver  - a trip lasting a mere 21 hours. The first part of the trip again followed the route of the Rocky Mountaineer but at a fraction of the cost.

US border control - last Scot before me that the chap had dealt with was Angus Young of AC/DC - bet he wasn't travelling by Greyhound. So here I am in Seattle of Grey's Anatomy, Starbucks and the grunge movement - suspect Starbucks might be the one with stamina.

Hope you enjoy the photos but as I said earlier, nothing can do justice to the Rockies.Keep your comments coming I really enjoy them

WOW
What can I say Spoony, your tales are very entertaining and the photos are awesome. I think a position as reviewer for The Lonely Planet beckons! Looking forward already to the next instalment.

Och Yes...it's Anne
hope the Greyhound journey to Seattle was worth the sore bot - did they find your Swiss Army knife!! Wonderful to see you looking well and taking N.America by storm. Thanks for the reminiscing, all the laughter, sound advice, trashing the shower and drinking my booze....it was magic. Specatular thunder storms after you left, so plants are now watered. Keep smelling the roses and watch for the scare in the comm folks. W + T
