So, the big day has dawned. Not strictly true, I've been up for 2 hours and it's still pitch black outside, but I'm sure it will dawn soon. I've been burning off CD's since I got up to come with us on the trip and sending off information to Meridian TV.
Following on from my recorded interview with Marina, the press officer, I've now been contacted by Radio Solent and the Dorset Echo. Meridian are also coming down to visit us on the sea front today to get some footage. I'm truly becoming a media slut, telephone interviews, press releases. I'm expecting a red carpet and a send off by the mayor now.
I've got a list of 16 items to do today. I've already whittled it down to 14 and to be honest, they are all relatively minor and not all to be done by me. I've got 4 posters to stick on the bus. Bill certainly came up trumps on his last minute advertising sales. I think he's got 350 coming in now I've got 3 signs printed in the last 24 hours. Luckily one of the specials is a printer by trade (police specials rather than the 80's pop group) and he was able to produce them promptly.
We have a band to play tonight. The Four Quits will be in attendance. Never heard them play, but I like the name. There would appear to be a fair number of people planning to be at The Dog tonight to see us off. That still seems to be a long way off as I have a busy day ahead.
I've been watching the price of fuel at Tesco's. Diesel is 118.9p a litre and I have a 5p /litre off voucher. When you have a 55 gallon tank, these vouchers and even a penny drop in the price is crucial. 1p off equates to about 3 off a tank. It's still going to cost best part of 300 to fill, including the jerry cans.
I've got to admit, I'm feeling apprehensive. So much that could potentially go wrong. I guess the point is that I've done my best. If it isn't sorted out by this evening, we'll just have to muddle along. Whatever happens, we should have raised a fair packet for CLIC and wherever we get to, it will have been an experience that very few have had. Let's face it, you wouldn't write a blog this long about a forthcoming package deal to Ibiza or get this level of media and public interest.
We're going to make it.....even if we've got to push that damn bus in to Ethiopia.
