After a sleep of expectation, we woke up before the alarm. It was light outside already and we were up and packing, sorting what went where and what was going home with us or via post.

At 7.30, we decided to go and enjoy our last breakfast. We could then come back, collect the stuff to be posted and head to the post office in plenty of time. Breakfast was indeed enjoyed. Just love the true continental breakfast with the cold meats and cheeses, crusty bread and a good strong coffee. We were actually quite full by the end of breakfast, and while I could have easily had a lay down to digest, Rach was very impatient to get to the post office, so off we went with our bags of stuff. We were 20 minutes early. Standing out the front waiting for the doors to open and taking in the morning rush going by. Finally the doors opened, we got our stuff into another 3 boxes, only this time the staff weren’t quite as helpful (may hadn’t had her morning coffee yet). Anyway, despite some gruffness, we were out of the post office at about 9.30. Rach was freaking out by this time. It wasn’t far to go, but it was taken at virtually a jog. As we went past Ziggy’s garage, there he was in the yard. He waved and we yelled hellos but we couldn’t stop to thank him for a wonderful night. Back to the hotel, changed into our travel clothes and suited up. We checked out and made it to the train station just on 10am. Rach was still a bit freaked, but at least we were on the platform with 15 minutes to spare.

We found a seat and waited……..and waited……and waited. Rach was freaking out now. Maybe the train had already gone, maybe we were in the wrong place etc etc. No double checked. Right place, right time, no train. Then we met an American guy who was wondering the same thing Rach was.  His wife was on a business trip to Germany, so he tagged along and was getting about on his own. He was heading back to the United States while she stayed in Europe. Sounded a bit of a weird scenario, but I guess different strokes for different folks. Anyway, the train never did arrive, so when the 11.15 arrived, everyone jumped on. Turns out the 10.15 broke down. We must have missed something in the translation at the station.

Anyway, on the train and headed for Frankfurt. Still plenty of time before we fly out that evening.  The trip was spent writing, reading and sleeping.

Got out at the airport and after some running around to find the Air China check-in, we were able to relax and settle down. Suggested to Rach we go find some German beer before boarding. Several tasty beverages and some airport food later, we were ready to depart. We had our plan to take some phenergan after the meal served shortly after takeoff. Worked a treat. We were both out to it until the light came up heading into Beijing.
