Woke up this morning to a complete white out – couldn't see more than about 20-50 metres. The planned bike ride into the town for croissant was called off. We resorted to bacon and eggs on board and when the fog lifted we set out up the river. We headed directly for Chalon sur Saone, quite a large town where we hoped we could do some basic things like a load of washing. The Meaghers were also keen to report their robbery to the police so they could claim their loss on their insurance. The other advantage in arriving early was that we got our pick of berths in the very large port. By this time the fog had lifted and the sun was shining, yet another beautiful day on the Saone.

We all headed for the town, John and I headed for the laundromat and the cyber café (so we could upload our blogs). We met up for lunch in one of the two main plazas. Post lunch we went our separate ways again and finally met up on the boat for champagne at 6.00. We took advantage of being in port to have a shower in a space large than 30cm X 30cm.

Chalon sur Saone is quite a large town. The old centre is very pretty with a nice cathedral and half-timbered Tudor style architecture.

In the evening, we had dinner at Chez Jules, one of the local restaurants on the Ile St Laurent in the middle of the river. We had one of their 3 course menus and a couple of good wines. We were all in bed quite early.
