We have finally made it to Singapore!

We got in about 6pm on Friday night (Qantas flight wasn't too bad, apart from them serving us breakfast at 3pm local time and deciding to keep the cabin lights off until 2.30pm local time...way to stop jet lag guys!) and the humidity was still mental at that time - it just about knocked us over as we left the airport! Thank god for air conditioning!

The hostel is distinctly alright, we are in the smaller of the two and we are sharing 1 toilet and 1 shower with about 12 people, as the other facilties are provided sans doors! They also have about 12 billion rules that must be obeyed and deposits for everything. Breakfast has also become something of a non event, as it is far too humid (promise!) to be up before 11am...so we are sleeping instead - tough life!

We did get up early on Saturday, only to find that everyone else in Singapore has a lie in, with nothing opening until 11.30 - at that point, we thought that Singapore was quite possibly the dullest place on earth.

Thankfully we've managed to find some entertainment over the last few days, once the city got out of it's bed!

On Saturday night, we went to see Singapore take on the mighty Saudi Arabia, in a vital World Cup Qualifier. The stadium was very cool - an old style concrete bowl. Indeed it's so cool, that they have decided to bulldoze it and replace it with a new stadium that looks like it is made of lego.

The game wasn't up to much (Singapore lost 2-0, after blowing the easiest chance in history in the first minute), but the spicy hot dogs were good, and the banter was brilliant, including half the crowd laughing as they forgot the words to the second verse of the Singapore national anthem and sniggering with disbelief as their "star" striker (he was wearing yellow boots) managed to blooter chance after chance somewhere into the South China Sea.

Game over, we hopped back on the MRT, which is surely the greatest invention known to man - fast, cheap, clean and reliable...in fact think of the opposite of Scotrail and you're there!
